Departmefrombearisland

I'll be going to a show later this month with my friend before she leaves for her foreign exchange program [one last hurrah]. It's a rapidskate shop show with a pretty ok lineup: departmefrombearisland, blaire, you can go to heaven, amulet, jimmy h. Doolittle, josh [not super familiar with the other bands, but my friend seemed 2 think they were good]. I have a love for bearisland, this will be my first time seeing them live, which I'm very stoked for.
If you're not familiar with departmefrombearisland their sound aligns with acoustic low-fi bedroom emo with heavy screamo influence. They combine soft, often upbeat acoustic instrumentals with screeching vocals, sometimes hazy, almost melancholy vocals will be heard alongside their scratchier vocals. They are a relatively young band. They've been around for about two years and have a limited amount of music on the internet, but their sound has been changing over time, so I'm excited to see how it's changed in comparison to what they have uploaded to Bandcamp and YouTube.
OK, time for a little criticism, not for them but for most of the LA screamo/emo scene in general.
As much as I like it, the sounds of the scene are mostly the same, and it makes it feel like there isn't really anything new in respect to sound, and like maybe that's just how music can get in a sceneāI think we're just kinda at a slow point, like something new and gnarly will come out that shakes up the sounds in the scene. But I think this is also just a general issue w/ bedroom skramz, it's unfortunately kind of reparative, same issue w/ twinkle... BUT that doesn't mean the music is bad or anything its ppl expressing themselves, and I think that's really wonderful. Like, just b/c something isn't fresh or whatever doesn't mean it won't impact or influence the scene. It's impacting someone, right? whether it be the artist themselves or listeners, it will affect them, and that's what matters.
This is just a fun little appreciation post for them :] Actually, I found them through beforyouleave which I found at that battle of the bands from a few months ago [they're both under Amok Circle Records].
their yt plz check them out!!!!!
